Safety & Security for Women Seminar ! 

Conducted by Women Empowerment Nepal (WEN) and Strategic Edge of Switzerland in collaboration with Alliance Francaise Kathmandu

• Basic protocols that mitigate risk
• Prevention capability: how to recognise threat, warning signs, and potential security incidents
• Owning your ground: drawing clear and strong boundaries, and protecting your space
• Appropriate responses to specific situations
• Discovering the power and ability for self-protection
• Practical self-defence techniques

Why women should learn self-defence :

• More and more women are deploying to difficult parts of the world where support is not readily available, especially when crises and security incidents occur.
• Women face risks that are unique to their gender, which are further escalated in a high-risk environment.
• Disasters reinforce, perpetuate, and increase gender inequality, making bad situations worse for women.
• Existing SOPs for risk reduction, crisis prevention, response, and recovery are seldom gender- sensitive, and women can and should take the initiative to own the measures that will keep them safe.
• Women who can take care of themselves, as well as the teams under their leadership, are crucial contributors to risk reduction and resilience for all women, from the global to the local level.
• By building confidence, situational awareness, and verbal and physical resistance skills, we reduce the likelihood of assault.
