Photography Workshop - 1 to 7 August 2014

 

CALL FOR APPLICATION: Voice to Express announce a weeklong workshop ‘Telling Stories; Photojournalism Now’, with Photographers Sailendra Kharel and Kishor Sharma in Kathmandu, Nepal.

 

World is currently witnessing a massive flood of imagery and we are being fed with overwhelming amount of photographs everyday. In this day and age, we believe importance of storytelling and ‘cohesive body of photographic work’ is even more significant. In this regard, this workshop has been designed to make participants understand the practices of visual storytelling and focus on building a cohesive body of work. The workshop includes daily assignments and group discussions followed by presentations and lectures.

Interested participants MUST commit to contribute their full time and be available throughout the workshop period and MUST have their own digital camera.

There are 2 scholarships available for the interested participants outside the Kathmandu valley. Though participants have to cover the travel and accommodation themselves.

 

APPLICATION GUIDELINES:

·        Interested candidates are requested to send filled application form along with your portfolio (up to15 best images: singles or 1 story).

·        Images should be minimum of 1000 pixels on the longest side and renamed with your first name (for example: ram_01.jpg).

·        Keep all the files in one folder and mail it to workshop@voicetoexpress.com

Mentor’s:

Sailendra Kharel

Sailendra Kharel, (b. 1982) an independent photographer specialized in editorial and documentary working on long-term personal projects. He worked as staff photojournalist for The Kathmandu Post, Nepal’s leading newspaper for seven years. In 2012, he completed his “Post Graduate Diploma in Photojournalism” under full scholarship program at ACFJ, Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines supported by World Press Photo.

His work has been widely published and exhibited in Nepal and internationally in prestigious festival of photography like Chobi-Mela, Dhaka 2009 and 2011, Angkor Photo Festival, Cambodia 2008 and 2011, 2012, Delhi Photo Festival, India, 2011. Kharel has received several local awards for his work.

In 2014 Kharel received full scholarship from Danish Ministry of Education to study “International photojournalism Program” at Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark.

 

Kishor Sharma

Kishor is a self-taught visual storyteller from Kathmandu, Nepal. He strives to explore and understand human societies through the medium of Photography.

He has been working as a freelance photographer since 2005. He worked at Drik India in Calcutta in 2008/09 and started working at photo.circle in Kathmandu from 2011-2013.

He received a scholarship from Danish Ministry of Education in 2013 and recently completed Advanced Visual Storytelling course from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark.

His work has been appeared in national and international publications and has been exhibited in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Finland, France and UK.
