Namaste!

Autumn in Kathmandu means it’s festival time. First Dashain, then Tihar, both great Nepali celebrations. And in between them, for the fourteenth year now, Jazzmandu. It’s a matter of joy and pride for the Jazzmandu team that our celebration of music has gradually found its own spot on the festival calendars of many people in this unique city, and also far beyond.

Jazzmandu is driven by the spirit of unity, compassion and peace that drives Dashain and Tihar too. The festival is made possible because musicians, sponsors, partners, staff, volunteers and listeners all come together to create something none of us could ever pull off alone. Many of our supporters have stood by us for years now, helping us make Jazzmandu bigger and better every year. To everyone who is joining hands with us again this year, and to all of you who are new to the festival, we extend our love and gratitude.

This year, as in every year, we’ve tried to bring the best of the world and its music to Nepal, and to share with our visitors the best of Nepal and its music. As you can see from the festival line-up, our artists are incredibly rich in talent, and in their diversity of origins and styles. What unites them, and what unites this festival, is a love of creating and sharing music. Our week of events includes Jazzmandu artists performing for schoolchildren and hosting workshops—both part of the festival’s strong tradition of furthering music education. It includes visiting musicians from all over the world joining the finest Nepali classical musicians for an evening of magical fusion, where boundaries between different musical styles dissolve. It includes gigs large and small, in wonderful venues across the valley. There’s all of that and much more, and we invite you to join in.
