Description
Green screen is an incredibly useful tool for creating special effects with video. Would you like to have a person in your video to fly over the skyline of KTM? Try green screen. Do you want to shoot on the moon, but can't afford a space ship? Try green screen!
In this workshop we will teach the basics of how to shoot and composite green screen images. This is a technical workshop so students should have some basic video experience. On the day of workshop we will begin by looking at examples of green screen. Students will decide on a backdrop from several options. Following this we will do a lighting workshop and then shoot in front of the green screen. The students will also learn how to composite what they shot onto a backdrop using Final Cut or Adobe Premier software (Adobe Premiere and After Effects preferred, if possible).
Learning Outcome
Students will learn how to shoot and composite green screen images.
Class Format
Experiential learning - We learn the basics shooting with our green screens and we will work with editing software to composite images and create movie magic!
About the Instructors
Lucas Millard and Kate Stryker have been creating documentary, fictional, and animated content together since 2009. In the winter of 2012-2013 they traveled to Nepal to co-teach a stop-motion animation workshop at Sattya Media Arts Collective in Kathmandu. During their time in Nepal, they ventured out into the hills of eastern Nepal, to a region in which Lucas had conducted field research as an undergraduate student in 1996-97. Lucas was awarded a 2014-15 Fulbright grant, thus paving the way for Lucas and Kate to return to Nepal and begin production.
