Clean up Nepal Public Rally: Housing for ALL

Habitat for Humanity - Nepal, Clean up Nepal and other organisations are holding a public rally on Saturday, 3 May 2014 to raise awareness on land and housing security. The rally will commence at 7.30am at Tundikhel and finish at 8.30am at Kathmandu Durbar Square. The rally is expected to attract thousands of individuals from a variety of organisations such as government, NGO/INGO, schools, colleges, leadership organizations, and youth networks. Clean up Nepal will help to organize a component of this rally, which has an expected turn out of 300 000 individuals!

Habitat for Humanity (HBH) Youth Build is a movement that aims to raise awareness of land and housing insecurity in the Asia Pacific region and to grow support for the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live in. Clean up Nepal believes that this concept should be extended further to ensure that communities have a right to live in houses that are located in clean, litter-free areas.

The rally will call for recognition of the following:
1. Housing is a basic human right.
2. HBH housing lends to sustainability through use of local materials and construction technology.
3. Holistic housing should incorporate waste management at the outset.

This is an exciting platform for youth to demonstrate their support to the concept that housing for ALL is a way forward to a more equitable and prosperous nation.
